Registration at event

  • Team Captains must bring the roster to the event.
  • Teams must register at the event together as a 5 person team. 
  • Ensure that all players read and sign the waiver before registering.
  • Ensure that all players bring photo ID and company ID to register at the event. Company ID can include an HR letter, business card, pay stub, employee ID.

Team Participants

  • Teams will consist of 5 Unknown Challenge participants (any gender)

  • 1 E-Sub allowed (Emergency non-employee Substitute)

  • Participants must be employees of your company at the time of play (with exception of the E-Sub). See Eligibility/E-Sub rules here

Format

  • This challenge will remain a surprise until your participants arrive at the event. 

  • This is a 2-hour event that takes place at West Edmonton Mall. While the activities will require you to move around the mall, no specific athletic ability is needed. Just come prepared for the unexpected and keep an open mind!

  • At the event you will be given a Passport with clues to the locations of an unknown number of tasks. Solve the clues, find the locations and complete the tasks.

Participation Tips

  • Tasks do not have to be completed in order, if there is a line up you may wish to proceed to a different task.

  • It is recommended to wear comfortable clothing and runners. (Any clothing that is damaged during the challenges will be your own responsibility.)

 

Event Rules


SCORING

  • Teams will accumulate points for each task completed. 

  • Some tasks only require completion for your team to get maximum points, while other tasks may be timed or scored. 

COACHING & OFFICIALS

  • At each task an official will be present to verify the completion of the clue in the passport.

  • No assistance is allowed from anyone outside of the 5 member team. Spectators may watch but cannot participate in any way.

RULES

  • All team members must leave their wristbands on until they turn in the passport

  • All tasks will be completed in a sportsmanlike manner.

  • Individual task rules will only be provided at the task location. These rules will stand firm and all discrepancies will be taken up with the Task Leader or Games Managers.

  • Teams must stay together – any team caught more than 30 ft apart will be penalized.

  • There is no assistance allowed from spectators. Any team receiving assistance may be disqualified. 

  • Do NOT take the passports apart, the staple must remain in place. There is a ten point deduction if the stapel is removed.

  • Do not remove the task specific score sheets from respective tasks. Score sheets handed in by team members will not count towards your overall score.

  • Activities do not have to be done in any particular order. If there is a long line-up at a task, try another one. There are often no line-ups at some tasks.

  • Solving clues and/or completing tasks are to be done without any outside resource. Team members are to use their brain power and not seek information from sources such as electronic devices, (phone, tablets), WEM stores, internet, books, spectators etc. unless specified to do so.

  • Participants cannot enter a WEM store for the purposes of working on a task or clue, unless the Passport specifically directs them to do so.

  • Participants cannot run in the mall.

  • ​​Respect WEM property and tenants. WEM patrons always have the right-of-way. All five team members must be present to hand in the completed Passport at the end of the day at the designated location. All team members must leave their wristbands on until they turn in the passport.

Corporate Challenge Points

  • Each team that participates will receive 10 PARTICIPATION points.

  • The top 6 teams in each division will be awarded CHALLENGE points as follows:

    • 1st place - 10 points (GOLD)

    • 2nd place - 8 points (SILVER)

    • 3rd place - 6 points (BRONZE)

    • 4th place - 4 points

    • 5th place - 3 points

    • 6th place – 1 point

  • Gold, Silver and Bronze medals will be awarded to the winning teams in each division.

​Team Cancellation/No Show Penalty

Cancellations must be emailed to the Corporate Challenge office. If a team must cancel their participation in a sport, the Penalties are as follows: 

LAST MINUTE CANCELLATION: (Within 48 hours of your event start time)

Teams that provide written notification (by email) that they are canceling out of an event within 48 hours of the start of the event will be penalized 5 points. A company with participants who register at the event but are unable to register an eligible team will be considered a cancellation and the penalty will apply. 

NO SHOWS: (No notification of cancellation)

A No Show will result in a 10-point deduction and disqualification from that sport for the following year. A NO SHOW is a team that has not provided any notification that their team is not participating in an event prior to start time of the event.
